August 16: Isaiah 34-36; Psalm 37:1-18; 1 Timothy 6

In the book of Isaiah, we have been reading about our exile.  About our great separation from God and God's displeasure at this outcome.

But today, today we begin to hear about our salvation....our return....our restoration.
And the ransomed of the LORD shall return, and come to Zion with singing; everlasting joy shall be upon their heads; they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.

This is our promise......for each and every one of us.  If we can commit to turning and re-turning (and this is a journey of a lifetime, not a one-time altar call) to God and God's Way for us, then we will have a new life.  A life that isn't controlled by fear and hurt and anxiety and sorrow.....but a life that is centered on hope, life, love, grace, mercy and forgiveness.

This new life doesn't drop down from the sky and appear on our doorstep. It is a way of life.  It isn't about Sunday mornings only....it's about Sunday mornings turning into daily conversion....changing bit by bit.....becoming more and more like the One who came to show us how to be human: Jesus.

This salvation has already been given; the secret has long ago been revealed.  Now it is up to each one of us to choose it and to keep choosing it......and to live it.  Live Jesus.  Choose life!
